In the heart of the Saint Joseph College – Mambajao Campus, known as the ‘SJC Extension,’ Josephinians from the Elementary to College Departments gathered on October 16, 2024, for the much-anticipated Family Day II: Intramurals 2024, themed “Making Space for Others and the Other Playfully.” The venue was full of energy as students waved their respective team colorsโblue for Team Josephus and pink for Team Marianus. Both teams fueled the excitement that illuminated the entire event, and this was only Day 1!
The program opened with a Welcome Talk led by Ms. Riza Lynn O. Siega, the School Vice President. This was followed by vibrant production numbers from Team Josephus and Team Marianus, with students waving their flags and filling the field with enthusiasm and unity. It was a thrilling start, setting the tone for a celebration of camaraderie and goodwill.
One of the highlights of the evening was the ceremonial Lighting of the Torch, featuring several respected athletes carrying the symbolic flame. Leading the torchbearers was Mr. Franz Jacob “Coby” Acasio, a Table Tennis player and EVRAA 2024 Gold Medalist, as well as a 2024 National PRISAA Silver Medalist and participant in the 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championship in Singapore. The torch was then passed to Ms. Jealyn Higgins, a 2024 PRISAA Silver Medalist. Next, it was handed down to Mr. Rj Noah and Mr. Zachary Emmanuel Ang, both PRISAA Bronze Medalists in Table Tennis.
Following them was Mr. CJ Gonzales, the Team Captain of the SJC Green Hawks, who is a 2024 Regional PRISAA Gold Medalist and 2024 National PRISAA Quarterfinalist. The torch continued its journey to the SJC Lady Green Hawks, represented by their Team Captain, Ms. Bea Pacaldo, a 2024 EVRAA Gold Medalist, 2024 Palarong Pambansa Quarterfinalist, and 2024 National PRISAA Quarterfinalist. The torch was then passed to the 2024 Palarong Pambansa and Batang Pinoy athletes. Finally, it was handed to our Very Reverend Monsignor Oscar A. Cadayona, the School President.
As the fire blazed, the Raising of the Banners for Team Josephus and Team Marianus intensified the competition, heating up the rivalry as everyone anticipated the outcome. The evening’s most anticipated highlight followedโthe Mr. & Ms. Family Day Parade of Escorts and Muses. The muses and escorts dazzled the audience, showcasing beauty, poise, and confidence. Each participant represented their teams with pride, offering a visual spectacle as they strode gracefully across the field, adding glamour to the evening.
As the day came to a close, an unexpected explosion of fireworks erupted, filling the air with cheers and applause. Day 1 of Family Day II: Intramurals 2024 was indeed a resounding success, setting a high bar for the remaining days to come. The Josephinian celebration of Family Day is a fierce yet friendly competition that brings out the best in each team. With more competitions, exciting events, and programs ahead, everyone in the community left the field with hearts full of admiration and determination, eager to see who would conquer the title, hoping to showcase their full potential in the days to come.
