On the evening of the 12th of February, 2025, the SHS Upper BCG was packed with eager students who were gathered for an unforgettable celebration of the Saint Joseph College Family Day III: Day 3.

The evening began with a warm welcome from the SHS Principal, Mrs. Joanne Costillas, who set the tone for the event by inviting both 11th and 12th Graders into a world of literary excellence.

The first highlight of the evening came in the form of the Declamation Contest, where Lyla Suki Shane Corona of the STEM Cluster rose to prominence. Though the victory was secured by default, her performance left no doubt that she deserved the win. Her delivery was nothing short of mesmerizingโ€”every word, drawn out with precision; every emotion, felt deeply by the audience. Her dramatic enunciation and impeccable timing gave her a commanding presence that truly captured the essence of her chosen piece.

Next, the stage was graced by Eden Joyce Cobong from the HUMSS Cluster, who took home the victory in the Declamation contest. With a passionate performance, her loud, clear enunciation and vibrant theatricality captured the hearts of both the Board of Judges and the audience. With a simple white dress, her powerful delivery reached its crescendo with the iconic line, “Release me!”, sparking awe among the crowd.

Following these powerful performances, Spoken Word Poetry was next to commenced. Nitchelle Barba, also from the STEM Cluster, earned her crown as the night’s poetry champion with a performance that resonated deeply with the audience.

Despite the pressure of the challenging Extemporaneous Speaking event, Ava Gonzales of the HUMSS Cluster conquered the stage. With little time to prepare, she delivered a profound and thoughtful response that impressed both judges and viewers alike. Her ability to think on her feet and articulate her thoughts so clearly proved her outstanding skill in the art of extemporaneous speaking.

In addition to the literary competitions, the event also celebrated the winners of the SJCEF Family Day III booth competition.

The winners were as follows:

3rd Place: Booth 237, The Religious Clubs

2nd Place: Booth 238, Arts Club and Wellness Club

1st Place: Booth 233, Mathletics Young Innovators Club and Elementos Club

The Literary and Musical Triumph was truly a night to remember, one that showcased the passion, talent, and dedication of the SHS students. Each performer contributed to an evening that left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

Congratulations to all the winners and participants for their hard work and dedication, which truly paid off in this spectacular event! The echoes of this night will undoubtedly linger in the hearts and minds of all who experienced it.
