In culmination of the English Month, the English Major Society (EngMaSoc) of Saint Joseph College celebrated its annual gala, themed, “The Roaring Twenties,” at Lourdes Convention Center, Mantahan, on November 25, 2024. The event invited faculty, guests, members, and College of Teacher Education (CTE) club heads to a spectacular display of elegance and nostalgia, transporting attendees to a bygone era.
The club’s festivity commenced with a red-carpet entrance, where guests, students, and instructors clad in elegant 1920s-inspired attire, walked the aisle amidst genuine smiles and camera flashes. Anticipation filled the venue as competing teams, Wordsmith and Litterateurs, awaited the announcement of the winning team.
The night featured open mic performances by club members, singing soft rock/adult contemporary, soulful pop/indie pop, and country music genres. These mesmerizing performances accompanied dinner.
EngMaSoc Mayor, Ms. Alexa Araรฑez, acknowledged the helping hands of team leaders, instructors, deans, assistant deans, club advisers, officers and organizers in her welcoming address.
“Let’s savor the joy of being surrounded by like-minded individuals who understand the magic of language,” Araรฑez stated.
Beyond physical presentation, the EngMaSoc Ball celebrated unity, academic excellence and community pride. The evening showcased the club’s dedication to promoting artistic expression, language and literature love, and camaraderie.
The announcement of literary winners per category included Aljhon Maulas for short story writing, Lyra Gail A. Cerro for essay writing, Paul Kim Abrea for short story writing, Kristine Dolorito, Rinbel Salva, and Jonessah Eunice Osorio for poetry, and Team Litterateurs for the Netizens’ Choice Award, filled the venue with claps and congratulatory messages. Team Wordsmith was declared as 1st runner-up, and Team Litterateurs as the overall winner.
EngMaSoc Vice Mayor, Mr. Jomar Junasa, expressed his gratitude to deans, faculty members, club advisers, officers, organizers and members.
“Thank you for making this night unforgettable. Have a safe trip home, and I hope to see you at future events,” Junasa concluded.
The night party and celebration of victory amidst friendly competition forged lasting bonds. The “Roaring Twenties” theme revived the spirit of a bygone era, ensuring language and literature love will endure.
The EngMaSoc triumphantly concluded the English Month celebration, signifying its members’ commitment to love of language and literature. As EngMaSoc grows, future events promise to build upon this remarkable legacy.
