On November 22nd, 2024, the Saint Joseph College Elementary Department hosted several events in celebration of the National Reading Month.

One of the events was the “Read Aloud Program,” held at the Elementary Library with the theme, “Magbasa, Mangarap, Magdiwang.” College of Teacher Education Students Joana Aychin Zamora, Jamaica Alexandra Pena, Herilyn Gula, and Darvilene Timbang captivated the young audience with enchanting tales like The Magic Pouch, Ang Alamat ng Niyog, and Si Kalabaw at si Tagak, engaging and immersing the young audience.

Also, the Spelling Bee Competition, exclusively for 3rd graders, tested the young learners’ spelling abilities. After an intense competition, Kesiah Abigail Balmeo emerged as the first placer, followed by Kaiser Ericson P. Reodica in second, and Jhaidy Niño B. Mendoza in third. Each participant proudly received their awards, with bright smiles reflecting their achievement.

On the other note, the Poetry Contest took place in the Elementary Department’s Music Room (GENYO) and was participated in by six young learners—all first graders; three pupils from St. Martin de Porres, and three from St. Elizabeth. The young learners studied and memorized the same poem, and when the competition commenced, each pupil delivered it with creativity, accuracy, and confidence.

Jemimah Felicity F. Batistil topped the competition, followed by Denise Jane D. Cinco in second place (both from St. Martin de Porres). Faith Angela Vasquez (St. Elizabeth) bagged third place, followed by Sean Anthony R. Ang (St. Martin de Porres). Mendy Chloe D. Duazo and Erza Freya A. Santiago (both St. Elizabeth) claimed the fifth place.

The Poster Making Contest challenged young artists to showcase their artistic talents and skills. All participants demonstrated impressive creativity and teamwork; winners will be announced during the department’s English Month Culmination on November 28, 2024.

Indeed, all of these activities celebrated the Elementary Department’s love of literature, reading, learning, and creativity. It was not only a competition but a way to ignite the young learners’ love for learning, develop confidence, and unlock new capabilities that will truly hone them to be the best version of themselves in the future.
